The growing demand for 360 spins – Especially for the holidays.

It’s that time of year when retailers pull out all the stops, decorating and promoting their newest and most exciting items. This year, we’ve seen a huge spike in new clients with a growing demand for 360 spins as so many more are turning to online to make up for fewer customers making their way to brick and mortar stores. As you might expect, clients like these, both old and new, make up the majority of our work in the lead-up to the holidays.

But this year we were also busy with another type of product: 360 views of Christmas trees.

Behind the scenes

With what has quickly become an annual tradition, this year the Indiana Historical Society presents their 7th annual Festival of Trees, a collection of 50 elaborately decorated trees you can see in person, in downtown Indianapolis, at the Eugene and Marilyn Glick Indiana History Center. But they wanted a way to offer the experience virtually as well, and not limit it just those willing to venture out.

That’s where PhotoSpherix comes in. After some conversations, consultations, and an on-site visit or two, we arranged an on-site photo-shoot over the course of several days, to capture interactive imagery for all 50 trees on display.

Many trees were set up on custom platform bases, which could be moved with a fork truck. Each of these trees was placed on our custom turntable rotation system, all of which sitting within our portable on-site photo studio. From there we photograph and spin each one, before it get moved right back to it’s display location within the multi-story center.

A number of other tree scenes were decorated as part of a larger display — so we couldn’t move these to shoot in our remote studio turntable system. Instead, we built custom rigging and a modular track assembly, where we laid out track around the tree and its full scene, capturing full scope of the set from edge to edge.

If you can’t to downtown Indy to see them in person, check out the Indiana Historical Society’s Festival of Trees Virtual Experience by clicking/tapping on the link below. Don’t forget to vote for your favorite!
