Keeping Bendix’s 360 Product Catalog Moving—On Site and Four Times a Year

Bendix needed a replacement 360 product photography team that could modernize its on-site PhotoRobot system, capture 156 products in the first week, complete post-production in Indianapolis and return four times a year.

The challenge

Bendix needed more than a replacement photographer.

Bendix already had an investment in 360 product photography, an on-site PhotoRobot system and a growing catalog of commercial vehicle components that needed to stay current. The system was still being operated through the older SpinMe application, and portions of the hardware also needed attention. What the company needed was a photography partner capable of stepping into that existing environment, understanding the equipment and restoring dependable production without discarding the parts of the capture system that could continue working.

The immediate assignment included bringing existing catalog needs up to date. The longer-term requirement was equally important: return to the facility four times each year so newly introduced and updated products could enter the same visual program instead of accumulating into another large backlog.

That combination changes the job. It requires photographers who can work together on location, adapt to customer-owned equipment, organize unfamiliar products, maintain a consistent visual standard and keep production moving through travel days, hotel stays and repeated visits.

The PhotoSpherix approach

Bring the production experience—not just the camera.

PhotoSpherix built the assignment around the equipment and workflow already available at Bendix. While on location, the team migrated capture from the SpinMe application to PhotoRobot’s current software, updated compatible hardware and identified and ordered additional components where the existing hardware could not be carried forward.

The team then evaluated how the renewed system’s movement, lighting and controls could support the required product presentation. Working successfully on customer equipment requires a practical understanding of rotation, camera position, lighting, alignment, control software and sequence behavior. The brand name on the machine matters less than knowing what a consistent product rotation requires and being able to diagnose the variables that affect it.

System recovery

The assignment brought the capture system forward as well as the catalog.

Replacing the photographer did not solve the entire problem. The on-site workflow also needed to move away from the legacy SpinMe application and into PhotoRobot’s supported software environment. PhotoSpherix handled that transition during the production visit so the equipment, controls and capture process could operate as one updated system.

Usable hardware was updated rather than discarded. Components that could not be carried forward were identified, and additional hardware was ordered to complete the renewed configuration. This allowed Bendix to protect its original equipment investment while establishing a more maintainable foundation for future quarterly visits.

The result was not simply a week of photography. Bendix finished the visit with new source imagery in production and a capture system better prepared for the next catalog update.

On-location production

A traveling team had to operate like a temporary catalog studio.

On-site 360 photography is a coordinated production assignment. Photographers travel together, transport the tools and support equipment the existing system does not provide, establish roles at the facility and work through the available product list while the capture window is open. Lodging, travel time, facility schedules and equipment access all become part of the production plan. During the first week at Bendix, the PhotoSpherix team photographed 156 products.

A team approach allows product preparation, identification, capture, file handling and quality checks to overlap. While one product is being photographed, another can be prepared and verified. Completed sequences can be reviewed while the next item is moving into position. That coordination is what turns an equipment installation into useful catalog throughput.

The goal is not to demonstrate that a visiting photographer can make the turntable move. The goal is to leave each production visit with organized, consistent source imagery. After the first week’s 156 products were captured, PhotoSpherix brought the files back to the Indianapolis studio to complete post-production, sequence-level quality control, review preparation and final delivery.

An on-location catalog assignment also requires a working control and review station for product identification, capture management and production checks.
Catalog consistency

Quarterly visits turn catch-up work into catalog maintenance.

The first stage helped Bendix bring outstanding product photography up to date. The continuing plan addresses the reason catalogs fall behind in the first place: products do not arrive on one convenient photography day. New components, updated configurations and revised part numbers enter the business throughout the year.

By scheduling four on-site production visits annually, Bendix can gather products into practical quarterly groups. PhotoSpherix returns with a team that already understands the location, equipment and approved presentation. Each visit begins from an established process, reducing the need to rediscover the system and visual standard every time.

This rhythm gives the catalog a repeatable release valve. Instead of waiting until the missing imagery becomes a major catch-up project, Bendix has a defined path for moving the next group of products into production.

From capture to usable assets

The work continues after the team leaves the facility.

On-site capture creates the source material, but a useful program still requires organized processing, sequence-level quality control, review and delivery. PhotoSpherix separates the work where that improves efficiency: the team uses the on-location window for product capture, then completes the detailed post-production work back at the Indianapolis studio. Bendix receives a managed catalog program rather than an unmanaged collection of files from the equipment.

  • Interactive 360 product photography for inspecting commercial vehicle components from every side.
  • Individual product stills retained from useful positions in each rotation.
  • Consistent product identification connected to the catalog and part-number workflow.
  • Sequence-level quality control for alignment, scale, lighting and motion.
  • Repeatable quarterly production built around the same equipment and approved standard.
The result

Bendix gained a photography partner that could work inside its operation.

PhotoSpherix gave Bendix a replacement 360 product photography team without requiring the company to abandon its PhotoRobot investment. The team migrated the workflow from SpinMe to PhotoRobot software, updated compatible equipment and planned the additional hardware needed to keep the system productive. The initial week produced source photography for 156 products, which PhotoSpherix then carried through post-production at its Indianapolis studio. The quarterly schedule established an ongoing way to photograph new and changing products.

The public PhotoSpherix Work library now includes more than 240 Bendix product examples, demonstrating the range and repeatability of the program. More importantly, the relationship is structured for what comes next: another product group, another scheduled visit and the same dependable visual standard.

This project shows what on-site production should provide. PhotoSpherix can enter an existing facility, collaborate with the customer’s team, adapt to the available capture equipment and turn repeated travel into a sustainable catalog workflow.
